We are thrilled to announce that Russel Johnson will be Swansea Country Club's new Director of Instruction.

With over 25 years of golf industry experience, Rus has studied under the brightest minds in the game; Jim McClean and Rick Smith to name several.

While working at some of the most renowned courses throughout the country, such as TPS las Colinas in Dallas Tx, Flagstaff Ranch Arizona, and Royal Oak in Dallas Texas, Rus has experienced the latest in teaching technologies and amenities. He will be bringing these same technologies and teaching methods to the East Bay and allow Southern New Englanders to experience firsthand golf instruction in the 21st century.

Rus' focus centers around the four methods of learning (Auditory, Kinetically, Reading and Visual) used in conjunction with Trackman, K-Vest, Robo Golf Pro and Hack motion technologies to name a few of the many systems used to improve your game.

Hi, I'm Russel Johnson, Owner and Lead Instructor at Ocean State Golf Academy.

With a background shaped by working in the industry for 30+ years with experience at three top golf meccas, I've witnessed the evolution from persimmon wood to modern technology and learned from some of the greatest minds in golf. In 2020, I was named in Northeast Golf Magazine as one of Rhode Island's best instructors.

In my journey across retail, wholesale, and golf facilities, I've seamlessly integrated traditional teachings with modern technologies. A seasoned instructor, my strength lies in effective communication, honed over years of mentoring professionals and tour-caliber players in five states. I have seen thousands of golf swings, and I understand that body mechanics, club fitting to the player, and even attitude makes every swing unique.

After 19 years, I returned home to Rhode Island and founded Ocean State Golf Academy with a focus on cutting-edge instruction, leveraging the data available from technology for precise assessments and advancements. OSGA embraces a technology-centric approach, introducing innovations like Robo Golf Pro (we has one of only 32 units worldwide) and Sportsbox AI for unparalleled performance analysis.

As a Callaway Golf staff player, I stay ahead of product trends, ensuring a seamless blend of instruction and club fitting. Beyond golf, Pickleball has become a true passion of mine.
